For All Humanity started in the summer of 2004, when Brian Schwadron and Jonathan Lindberg were in Honduras on a trip inspired by Dr. Dulick. They collected medical, school, and art supplies as well as toys for the families of Las Vegas, Honduras. While there, they wanted to help start something that would help the community not only then, but also in a sustainable and long-term manner.
Knowing that the only way to accomplish such a task is by involving the members of the community, they called a meeting for anyone that wanted to attend. They facilitated a brainstorming session to discuss needs of the community and to propose projects to address those needs. The people of Las Vegas were asked to go talk to as many other people as they could about the ideas that were discussed in the meeting, and come back a week later for a second meeting. Outside of meetings, Brian and Jon also met privately with various members of the community to get their personal views on their own situation. Together, they realized that the commercialization of the organic, shade-grown coffee from the region was an ideal way to stimulate what was a dying local economy, create much-needed jobs in the area, and promote a local product; thus offering hope and renewed pride to the growers and their families (which includes a majority of the people in the area). You may read more about this project by looking at the Organic Coffee section of our site.
Using that trip as an inspiration, Jon and Brian wanted to offer the opportunity for others to positively affect lives by organizing communities around the world, encouraging social cooperation in a vision of peace and hope. One year after that trip to Honduras, in June of 2005, For All Humanity was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of Missouri.
As the ways to best serve each other become apparent, FAH will continue to ride the leading edge of community building and regenerative design.
Any help you could offer in the form of ideas, involvement, or even a simple donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
